Gem Bowl

Price

$375

Dimensions

8 x 12 x 12

Description

Earthenware slab construction, carved, hand-painted glazes, c/ 01.

Short Statement

I have used a new design to define the shape of this bowl, when carving it. The energy of the lines, as they move around the bowl, is exciting to me. I am experimenting with similar patterning on a variety of other forms in my studio now.

Imaginary Vase #4

Price

$450

Dimensions

11 x 8 x 6

Description

Porcelain vase, thrown and handbuilt, black slip and glaze, sgraffito technique.

Short Statement

This piece is part of a series entitled the Imaginary Vase. Drawings were originally made of vases that could not be created, would be difficult to make, out of ceramics. These drawings were modified to be made in ceramics while remaining challenging "imaginary" forms.

One Vase, Two Views

Price

$2500

Dimensions

23 x 18 x 6

Description

This is one of a series entitled "Imaginary Vases".

Short Statement

I have always enjoyed playing one side of a piece against another, either with "opposite" imagery or of something totally different.

Turtle Landscape Lithophane with Lucky Rainbow

Price

$1500

Dimensions

11 x 13 x 2

Description

Translucent porcelain slip, c/ 10; original low bas-relief illustration carved in damp plaster; when plaster is bone dry, I tape a fence of tape around the rectangle to catch the 1/8" flowing porcelain slip ; once leather hard, I transfer to finish dry on to a plaster bat that has a recessed center to make the rainbow.

Short Statement

I carve a low bas-relief illustration in damp plaster. When the plaster is bone dry, I tape a fence around the rectangle to catch the 1/8" flowing porcelain slip. When slip is leather hard, I remove the porcelain slab onto another plaster slab, with a recessed center to make the rainbow.

The Proposition

Price

$1500

Dimensions

12 x 20 x 7

Description

Stoneware ceramic figurative sculpture, handbuilt.

Short Statement

After becoming a mother, I felt a deep-rooted fear and vulnerability for my children’s safety, wherever danger might come from. However, I also began to recognize a primal fury in myself to protect my children that matched the ferociousness of any alligator. I believe this strength is not something new brought on by having children, but an inherent power unburied and rediscovered that all women carry.

Big Ol' Gal

Price

$8500

Dimensions

29 x 14 x 11

Description

White stoneware figure with full torso body tattoos drawn with graphite pencil on front and back.

Short Statement

In her nakedness, this big ol’ gal stood raw and exposed. Her body tattoo has the uncanny ability to mask her vulnerability. Here she stands—strong, confident, and at ease with her body.

Baby Melon Jar With Bee

Price

$135

Dimensions

3 x 2 x 3

Description

Stoneware, wheel-thrown, with majolica glaze, kanthal wire and china paint.

Short Statement

A sweet little melon acts as a soft landing for this little bee. What will happen to our pollinators? So fragile are these tiny creatures.

Lines, 37 White with Brass

Price

$2400

Dimensions

14 x 8 x 7

Description

Porcelain slip-cast. The ceramic form starts as a straight cage of wet clay and finds its own shape while in the kiln. The brass wire is added after the firing.

Short Statement

Since I don’t decide the final form of my pieces, there is sometimes a gap or broken line that I fill with a piece of brass wire after the firing to uplift the piece instead of discarding it. This is a 3D play on the practice of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold.

Lines, 26 Black

Price

$1100

Dimensions

10 x 10 x 9

Description

Porcelain slip-cast. The ceramic form starts as a straight cage of wet clay and finds its own shape while in the kiln.

Short Statement

For the black lines I mix the porcelain slip with a ceramic stain before casting the piece. This way the piece has the color all the way through the clay instead of a surface treatment. This allows me to have a sanded matte finish, without requiring added color or glaze application.

Slip Painted Bowl

Price

$365

Dimensions

7 x 14 x 14

Description

Stoneware bowl, slip painted with Korean cedar tree ash glaze, wood fired.

Short Statement

This stoneware bowl is glazed with ashes from a beloved tree that had to be cut down. I had the tree experts pile the entire tree, needles and all for drying and then burned it in an outdoor furnace. The glaze is 50% ash and 50% feldspar.
