Oyster and Pearl

Price

$1,200

Dimensions

5 x 23 x 14

Description

White clay, thrown and cut, saggar fired, smoke fired slab

Short Statement

From a series of open oval bowls, this piece finds its footing on a rippled textured slab, smoked to evoke sand. Fired in Wellfleet, the oyster connection is natural. The saggar fired surface is reminiscent of nacre's mother of pearl luster. The "pearl" is a thrown closed form with pieces inside that produce sound when handled.

A Taxonomy of Sorts

Price

$450 each

Dimensions

9 x 12 x 9

Description

Eroded clay shard stones and some hand made spirals included in these installation pieces..Look closely to see the record numbers and lines on the Fisher Scientific boxes through the translucent vellum photograph inside the lids.

Short Statement

I tumble shards of broken pieces in sand and water to echo the erosive processes of ocean waves and river currents. I found myself impulsively sorting these pieces for storage in the studio, until the sorting became the work. The boxes and images, referencing a scientific methods of categorizing, became the perfect vehicle for my own quasi logic.
