Short Statement

I grew up too fast. I started drinking at the age of 13, which led to fifteen years lost to the disease of addiction. Making these ceramic figurines allow me to re-capture a sense of joy, humor, and playfulness while at the same time making sense of my past.

Porcelain houses have been my playthings for a while; I am still investigating them. They are purposely odd, and also familiar. Proportions are strange, windows and doors impossible, scale out of whack. I enjoy putting them in different combinations in different environments to see what they mean then.

Wild North Carolina Catawba clay

Short Statement

This piece was fired for six days in the sidestoke firebox of an anagama kiln. It's a risky process due to the fluctuation in temperature throughout the firing and to the danger that overenthusiastic stoking might impact the pot. When it works, as it did here, it's worth the risk.
