Short Statement

Wheel-thrown porcelain. Multiple glazes beginning with my Albany slip base glaze. Poured, spayed, splashed glaze. I've realized over my 40 years of ceramic work that I am a porcelain lover. The potential for perfection, softness, and skill required have always consumed me. It will forever be my personal challenge.

I'm fascinated by the sheer variety of human body types, whose genetic mutations, irregularities and idiosyncracies become especially apparent in groupings of individuals. I translate this information to my work by modulating proportion and scale within the various parts that comprise a whole.

Inspired by beading, and mosaics, I embrace aesthetics of excess and sentimentality, celebrating beauty, abundance, and unapologetic expression while challenging assumptions about femininity, gendered labor, and worth through vibrant, exuberant sculptures.

Short Statement

This bowl shows how important it is to me to carry a design throughout the entirety the form. Each large triangle moves from the exterior to the interior showing off a variety of underglaze colors giving the viewer visual interest at every angle.

The ragged glazed pieces on the vessel along with the carbon that seeped into the unglazed body suggests an earthiness, capturing an essence of earth.
