Loose Ends
$2000
18 x 18 x 3
Terracotta, multiple firings, stains, gouache, encaustic & cold wax finishes.
These terra cotta pillows are hand-built with ground layers applied in ceramic terra sig and stains, then multiple post-firing layers are added to the surface in a variety of mixed media. I work in series and choose the groupings as the drawings develop; the groupings create a sort of associative visual language or floating narrative.
Polychrome Bowl #14
$250
3 x 16 x 16
Stoneware, wheelthrown, reduction kiln, c/10.
I chose the form for this bowl, one in a series, with the glaze technique in mind--the pouring of three different glazes--hence the low profile and absence of articulated rim. I love the way the first glaze, Shino, creates an initial “landscape” for the other glazes to break on, creating rivers, creeks, deltas and rivulets of intermixed color and sheen. The form and process unify, for me, in a functional object that uses and reflects the elements and processed of nature; earth, water, fire and air interacting and changing each other.
Long Tray
$250
3 x 21 x 8
Terracotta, handbuilt, oxidation kiln, monoprint design.
I use a rubber stamp to create a basic repeating pattern in black underglaze, then play with different colors of underglaze in squeeze bottles. Through this process, I experience how color brings forward different elements of the design.
Beach Stone Vessel
$420
5 x 5 x 5
Stoneware, wheelthrown, oxidation kiln, collected beach stones.
The vessels are created, altered and fired. After the firing, the stones are selected and placed into the channels. The stones are then removed in order, and adhered in place.
