Porcelain, wheelthrown, oxidation kiln c/10, underglaze & glaze.

Short Statement

My work is very functional, meant for every day use, with a strong decorative element. I grew up in Dresden, Germany. Much of my inspiration comes from a rich history of ceramics manufacturing in that area. But my own education and production is based in Massachusetts.

Lines, 26 Black

Price

$1100

Dimensions

10 x 10 x 9

Description

Porcelain slip-cast. The ceramic form starts as a straight cage of wet clay and finds its own shape while in the kiln.

Short Statement

For the black lines I mix the porcelain slip with a ceramic stain before casting the piece. This way the piece has the color all the way through the clay instead of a surface treatment. This allows me to have a sanded matte finish, without requiring added color or glaze application.

Short Statement

32 cast ceramic handguns with opposing points of view in the gun debate stamped into the barrel of each gun. REALITY! Season One

Price

$500

Dimensions

8 x 54 x 8

Description

A single banner headline from each day’s New York Times – beginning January 20, 2017 and ending on January 19, 2018 – is emblazoned onto an individual coffee mug. With each passing month, mugs diminish in size. Porcelain Slip-cast, oxidation kiln c/6, ceramic decals.

Short Statement

REALITY! Season One reflects on the material properties of clay, dramatic shrinkage in particular. Imagine creating a mold from a very large handmade coffee mug, then firing the resulting casted object, with about 15% shrinkage after firing. Next, make a mold of the new (smaller) object, fire the casting and, again, the object shrinks approximately 15% ... repeat this process a dozen times and you have a series of mugs that progressively decreases in size -- from the comically monstrous original to the innocuous, tiny, final form.

Duo Mug Set

Price

$120 / set of 2

Dimensions

8 x 12 x 4

Description

Stoneware, wheelthrown mugs, oxidation kiln, resist glazed to create contrasting pattern.

Short Statement

The Duo Mug Sets are each a playful team of two mugs meant to stack foot to lip in either combination or set side by side facing each other handles out. The intent is that when set out for tea for two the pattern plays out across both forms.
